Applying to Municipal Heritage Partnership Program
There is no application deadline for MHPP funding proposals. Proposals are considered on a first-come-first-served basis by the Alberta Historical Resources Foundation. Funds will be allocated through a grant agreement between the Foundation and your municipality. Project completion will typically be expected within twelve months of entering into the grant agreement.
The Municipal Heritage Partnership Program does not use a standardized application form. Applications are made to the program in the form of a proposal for funding. Proposals should include any information that is considered salient to the application. At minimum a proposal should include:
- Introduction
- Background on the municipality including:
- Population
- Geographical location
- Current historical, cultural or heritage initiatives
- Societies, associations, committees and foundations
- Community support
- Background on the municipality including:
- Contact information
- Objective(s)
- What will be accomplished?
- Community benefit
- Strategy
- How will work be completed?
- Schedule
- Resources available
- Previous heritage planning work
- Volunteers
- Published histories
- Museums and archives
- etc
- Budget
- Letters of support
- Council Resolution or Letter from Mayor/Reeve & Council
- Heritage Advisory Board
- Local Historical Societies
- MLA
Proposals should be no more than 5-8 pages plus any attachments. Proposals will be accepted by standard mail, e-mail (PDF and Word files only) and fax. All proposals, or questions regarding application to the program, should be directed to:

Involved municipalities
Since 2006, over fifty municipalities – both urban and rural – have partnered with MHPP on successful heritage planning projects. These projects, which include heritage surveys, inventories, and management plans, are already helping to create a future for Alberta’s historic places.
